After hanging out with my new friend Jacques, I stumbled upon another treasure of a shop, called Animal Art Antiques. The store features an eclectic mix of art, antiques and curiosities related to all things animal.
Don’t miss this fascinating antique shop on your next trip to New Orleans! When you’re there, you might even have a chance to meet the Scottish Terrier, Hoover.
It’s difficult to see in the photos, but Hoover is modeling a handcrafted Swiss dog collar, from the Appenzeller region of Switzerland. These collars are traditionally worn by Swiss cow herding dogs during the winter and fall festivals, when the cows were taken up to high pastures and when they were taken back down for the winter. Animal Art Antiques sells these traditional Swiss collars in their store.
After perusing all of the interesting wares at Animal Art Antiques, I needed a little pick-me-up. Cafe du Monde and Central Grocery were packed with tourists, but I found a perfect alternative just around the corner at Meltdown, a homemade popsicle shop that features flavors like Salted Caramel, Pineapple Basil, and Saffron Rosewater. I didn’t get a photo of the popsicles–probably because I was so busy wolfing down my own Vietnamese Coffee pop. Yummmm.
Tomorrow, I’ll have more photos from New Orleans – this time from the Lower 9th Ward, where we toured the Make it Right foundation homes, and met a puppy named Rosé!
