Of Dogs and Books

As long as I can remember, I’ve loved dogs and I’ve loved books.  So there is no better combination in my mind than a great book about dogs.

One of my favorite blogs, City Dog, Country Dog, featured a guest post by Louise (bookseller at independent bookstore Northshire Books, in Manchester Vermont) that listed her top ten favorite dog books.  It put me in the mood for some serious summer reading!

So it was a nice coincidence when a few weeks ago, I was contacted by Seal Press to review the new book, Follow my Lead, by author Carol Quinn.  As a huge bookworm myself, I’m more than psyched to be able to review a book for readers of The Daily Toki.  So thank you Natalie at Seal Press for contacting me!  Also, as a special thank you to readers of The Daily Toki, Seal Press has agreed to send an extra copy of the book to the winners of a Daily Toki giveaway.  Yeah!

I haven’t yet read the book, so look for a full review sometime next week!  But in the meantime, here’s a blurb from the publisher:

When love threatens to upend her life, Quinn turns to her sweet, unruly dogs and enrolls them in agility training classes.  Follow My Lead is her memoir of how two rambunctious Rhodesian ridgebacks—and a tough, eccentric dog trainer named Irina—taught her everything she needed to know to overcome life’s obstacles.

With humor and candor, Quinn shares the story of how she and her dogs develop a deep bond of trust and learn to navigate the course obstacles with grace and skill. She soon discovers that dog agility is much more than a hobby—as she continues the training, it becomes a metaphor for her life.

Funny, thoughtful, and uplifting, Follow My Lead is a heartwarming personal journey that will entertain and inspire readers of all sensibilities. Check out the website at www.followmyleadthebook.com to read Quinn’s blog and learn more about her story or watch her teaser video here.

By the way, I checked out that teaser video, and it’s really cute!  (And it is a sure crowd pleaser for those agility hounds out there.)

Now about that giveaway . . . If you’d like to receive a free copy of Follow My Lead, leave a comment on this post naming your all-time favorite dog book.  For an extra chance to win – leave a comment on The Daily Toki Facebook page!  Entry for the giveaway will be open until Friday, August 19th, at which point, I’ll choose one name from the entries using a list randomizer.  Also look for my review sometime next week for an extra chance to win.

PS: No purchase necessary to enter The Daily Toki giveaway.  And, per FTC guidelines, let me state for the record that I have no formal relationship with Seal Press, and any future review of the book reflects my own opinion. : )

Good Luck!

Please give that gorgeous canine a scratch from us!
