I thought I was in Switzerland

We met a couple of buddies on the trail in the Cottonwood Lakes basin, including this white cutie and this Bernese Mountain Dog, both from Torrance, California.

Bernese Mountain Dogs are one of my favorite breeds – so it was a treat to see this one in his native environment!  Their Swiss name, Berner Sennenhund, derives in part from the word “Senne”, or “alpine pasture”.  You can see that this Bernese Mountain Dog looks right at home.

I loved their backpacks too . . .

Have a great weekend!

  1. I had to read all of the words because when I only looked at the pictures I thought you were in Switzerland.

That is the most picturesque backdrop ever! And I love the other canine adventurers…remember how we instantly fell in love with two Bernese Mountain Dogs at Washington Square Park when we were 3Ls? 🙂

I can almost hear the yodeling and the Von Trapps singing in the distance!!!

another great set.. you are making me want to go there really bad. We will have to be pro campers though first I think. I have always liked Berners too, just wish they were slightly smaller, and had less hair/drool. I know there are similar breeds that have short coats, but still more hair than my vizsla.

The nice thing about this area is that you can car camp at Horseshoe Meadow and then go on day hikes, which is a nice way to ease into camping. I haven’t even tried backpacking with dogs yet, although I definitely want to try one day.
One thing to remember about camping with your pup is to get a big enough tent! Our two person tent was uncomfortably tight when we added 80-pound Toki.
